IrokoIroko is a member of the Teak family and is a hardwood from tropical Africa. It is one of the woods sometimes referred to as African Teak. It has been traditionally used in external joinery and in places where the timber may come into contact with water. One of the physical properties of Iroko compared to other woods it has a higher oil content so is more resistant to moisture. Dense interlocked graining and the high oil content make it a very durable wood and very suitable for external use. Iroko does not require regular treatment with oil or varnish when used outdoors. Iroko has a similar appearance to teak and less expensive and with the same durability. The wood is used for a variety of purposes including boat-building, domestic flooring and furniture and duckboards.
